Join us on Saturday, October 23rd at 6pm for the Urban Youth Alliance 40th Anniversary Benefit Reception, with keynote speaker Dr. A. R. Bernard of Christian Cultural Center and Starr 99.1 Radio Personality George Flores as Master of Ceremony! The Benefit Reception will take place at El Museo del Barrio (1230 5th Avenue, NY, NY) and will be a joyous evening of celebrating 40 years in ministry.
It’s incredible to look back and see how God has grown our organization. Urban Youth Alliance was founded in 1970 when a small group of young people from the city’s most disenfranchised neighborhoods formed the campus ministry Seekers Christian Fellowships to live out Micah 6:8: “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with God.” Seekers Christian Fellowships students worked to transform their schools, neighborhoods and churches by preaching God’s word and putting faith into action. What began as a small movement has now spread to high schools, college campuses and neighborhoods all over New York City, branching out into much-needed social services for the community. Urban Youth Alliance has mobilized churches to partner with the justice system and reach high-risk youth, we’ve provided job training and job placement to individuals with little or no work history, we launched the SUCCESS afterschool program to tutor middle school students in the Bronx at risk of failing, and we’ve started the only community-based alternative to incarceration program in the Bronx.
Over 40 years, Urban Youth Alliance has trained nearly 20,000 students in cross-denominational campus ministry to bring the transforming gospel of Jesus Christ to schools and communities. Through BronxConnect, our alternative-to-incarceration program, we have provided court advocacy, case management and other support services to over a 1,000 youth facing incarceration. 83% of our BronxConnect youth remain free in the community without reconviction. They have left behind a life of crime and felony and go on to successfully graduate from high school, enroll in college, and find fulltime employment. We praise God for allowing us to make a lasting difference in the lives of youth.
God has been faithful to Urban Youth Alliance. In our ministry there have been ups and downs, little victories, little setbacks…This recession has certainly hit us very hard yet we are not closing our doors as some other ministries are being forced to do. Even during these tough economic times, we believe that He will continue to provide for Urban Youth Alliance through faithful supporters. We ask you to partner with us in maintaining and expanding our transforming work in NYC.
