“Old School Warriors” on the Court

On Sat, Nov. 26, 2011 the Fellowship Tabernacle COGIC and the Gardiner Foundation hosted the 10th Annual Fellowship of Council of Churches Basketball Classic at MS 144, in the Bronx.

This years tournament included five teams and four churches; defending Cham pions was Fellowship Tabernacle COGIC in the Bronx, (Supt. Jay Gooding, Pastor) lead by co-captains, Vaughn & Jayme Gooding. Miracle Provider Church in the Bronx, (Pastor Carrie Huggins) was led by Captain Quinn Gardiner, who won the championship in 2009. Pentecostal Deliverance Church of Mt. Vernon, NY. (Kim Covington Johnson, Pastor) made it to the semi-finals led by Captain Deacon Anthony Johnson. Traveling from Brooklyn, NY, Grace Tab. COGIC was also there. Their pastor, Pastor John David Wright (son of the late Rev. Timothy Wright) also served as their captain. Over 200 spectators attended the games which started at 9 am. In attendance, was the Prelate of the Eastern NY Churches of God in Christ, Bishop James Gaylord (Kelly Temple COGIC) whose team competed in 2009.

This years Champions were the Old School Warriors, captained by Elder Dexter Gardiner (Miracle Provider Church) & Pastor Jay Gooding (Fellowship Tabernacle COGIC. Old School Warriors are a combination of the older brothers from Fellowship Tabernacle COGIC, Miracle Revival Temple, Miracle Provider Church, and the 49th Police Precinct.

The Championship Game was played between defending champs, Fellowship Tabernacle COGIC and the Old School Warriors.” What a game!, won by the Old School Warriors on a “miracle” three pointer at the buzzer. Final score was 72-71. Also, featured was a youth basketball game for 12 year olds and under, with approximately 30 youth competing.
