Ground Breaking Ceremony
Community Baptist Church of Englewood, NJ Ground Breaking Ceremony
Chosen to Serve: Challenged to Grow, the long-time motto of Englewood’s Community Baptist Church has taken on a more secular meaning as its pastor, Rev. Dr. Lester W. Taylor, Jr. and his rapidly growing congregation begin their greatest challenge in nearly sixty years.
Rev. Taylor and the faithful members of the popular church broke ground on their new $12 million, 45,000 square foot state-of-the-art sanctuary and Christian educational center during an inspirational ceremony Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Community Baptist Church, 224 First Street, Englewood, NJ.
With a vision and desire toward better serving the Englewood community, Rev. Taylor challenged his congregants to make an investment in both themselves and the greater Bergen County community. The members met his challenge by readily making significant monetary contributions to their Capital Stewardship Campaign. These funds, coupled with the next phase of a capital campaign and a secured loan from Commerce Bank will provide the necessary resources to erect the $12 million structure.
“This property was purchased in 1945 by past members of this great church for $300. A ground breaking took place to erect our current building in October 1948,” says Rev. Taylor. “Nearly sixty years later, in a time when our economic climate is uncertain at best, our members remain faithful and dedicated and extraordinarily optimistic. I am in awe of their level of devotion and of God’s undeniable goodness.”
The new Community Baptist Church was designed by Conrad Roncati of Architecture based in Edgewater, NJ. Ceremony participants will include NJ national, state and district denominational leaders and elected officials.
