Stop Child Trafficking Now

Launches 40 Walks Worldwide To Fight Child Trafficking

Lynette Lewis

An International movement to bring awareness and raise funds for the global epidemic of child sex trafficking is spreading across the world. On October 2nd & 3rd, 2010, thousands will join together in 40 cities and on three continents in an international walk campaign to bring attention to the issue of child sexual slavery.

40 walks around the world are planned for October 2nd & 3rd, 2010, to raise awareness and support the fightagainst child trafficking. Thousands will take part in Stop Child Trafficking Now Walks (www.sctnow.org) located in the United States, as well as Australia and Canada, with the culminating event in New York City on Saturday, October 9th.

The 2nd Annual SCT Now National Walk Campaign is a volunteer campaign that the U.S. State Department calls “historic.” In just two years, SCTNow has grown from a national campaign to an international one, reaching thousands with the truth about the gravity and extent of child trafficking.

Stop Child Trafficking Now is a grassroots organization, focused on eliminating the demand of child sex trafficking, by targeting predators fueling the industry around the world. SCTNow partners with elite Special Operatives trained in gathering evidence against the men and women who are sexually exploiting children.

Ron and Lynette Lewis, pastors of the Morning Star New York congregation in New York City, (www.msny.org) founded SCT Now in 2007, out of a growing burden for the child sex trafficking issue. The Lewis’ consider it a responsibility to engage the local church in the issue of fighting child slavery, an issue according to Lynette, that demands the attention of the body of Christ. “God is a God of justice and we must be His hands and feet in taking a stand against the injustice of child slavery,” says Lewis.

"When my husband Ron and I began this organization, our hope was to see an end to child slavery in our lifetime,” Lynette continues. “We didn’t know how to fight it but we knew we had to do something.” By focusing on the demand, the Lewis’ feel they are dealing with the root of the issue, an approach that will eventually result in freedom for many innocent victims. Child sexual slavery is a growing issue throughout the world. UNICEF estimates that 2.5 million children, the majority of which are girls, are sexually exploited in the multibillion dollar commercial sex industry.

According to the U.S. State Department, an effective campaign must also attack the demand for child slavery. For this reason, the SCTNow Campaign addresses and funds a “demand-centered” approach.

We encourage everyone to stand up for the children being violated through child sexual slavery by taking part in an SCTNow Walk," said Lynette. “Walking seems simple, but every dollar counts and can effectively impact this mission for saving innocent lives.”
